FAQ

What is reiki?

Reiki as a practice is a form of energy healing. In this ancient Japanese technique, practitioners channel energy through palms to encourage emotional and physical healing. They work with chakras understand the energetic body and state of mind. Reiki offers both benefits of a physical massage with the insights of talk therapy session. Practitioners will work with clients to move through energetic and physical blocks.

What happens during a reiki session?

Before a session begins, you’ll have a consultation to help customize your specific treatment. Typically, a session lasts for 50mins. You’ll lie in a comfortable position fully clothed on a massage table. Sessions can be indoor, outdoor, or distance depending on your arrangement.

Once the session begins, all you have to do is relax. The reiki practitioner will guide their hands with flat palms down, on or just above your body, in specific positions to channel universal energy and encourage healing. Touch is not required for Reiki to work; you and your reiki practitioner will review what is comfortable and appropriate for each session.

At the end of a session, you’ll have a moment to discuss anything that may have came up for you or your practitioner during your treatment. This time is intended to help hold space for clarity around any of the feelings or experiences, but is optional as is anything offered.

How much reiki do I need?

The benefits of Reiki can be received in the matter of minutes with typical sessions running around 20-60mins.

During your initial consultation, you and your practitioner will determine the best course of treatment given you specific goals. Regular monthly sessions are encouraged to maintain health and wellness; where as acute or chronic conditions may require more.

Who is reiki for?

Everyone – all ages, body types, beliefs, and backgrounds can benefit from the healing energy work that is reiki.

What do you feel during reiki?

While most people feel the effects of reiki right away, others may feel the impacts after their session. Common feelings include tingling, warmth, and deep relaxation. You may even fall asleep because you become so relaxed and wake up from your session with a new sense of awareness, clarity, and/or connection.

How to prep and what to expect?

Approach reiki the same way you would a normal Swedish or deep-tissue massage. Drink plenty of water before hand and don’t eat a heavy meal right before. Your reiki session will start with a brief conversation and setting of intention.

During, wear comfortable clothing, bring blanket, crystal or any other items that may bring you comfort. Clothes stay on during reiki sessions. Just breath and relax during the session. Even if you fall sleep trust the energy is doing its work.

Post, take it easy. Your body is in a gentle state. You should feel calm and light, maybe sleepy or energized depending on what your program entailed. Make sure you have some down time scheduled after if possible. The effects of treatment can be immediate, but often times come minutes, hours, even days later. Be gentle with yourself and open to what comes up. Journaling pre, post, and the days following is a great way to help dive in deeper and continue your practice.
